The different data types which an SMS can be.

There are three different data types which an SMS message can be:

  1. Plain text - Allows for 160 characters belonging to the GSM character set.
  2. Unicode - Allows for 70 characters belonging to the Unicode chracter set which covers all the world's living languages.
  3. Binary - Allows for binary data that can transmit pictures, wallpapers, VCards etc.

Support for binary data is expected in mid-June 2006.
