Why have US network operators made standard rate messaging so restrictive?
US network operators are in a very different position to network operators found elsewhere in the world because the mobile messgaing industry in the US is still in its infancy. This makes it possible for them to establish the ground rules which will guide the future development of the industry.
Their main concern is the satisfaction of their susbcribers (i.e. mobile users) and, whilst one might think the huge volumes of traffic would be of financial benefit to them, the harm and damage done to their brands by transmitting mobile spam is greater than the financial benefit.
However, as one-side as it may seem, the end satisfaction of mobile users is key to the messaging industry's success and works to the end benefit of content providers and aggregators.
